TaksCheck privacy policy

In short: TaksCheck collects nothing. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. The extension sends nothing anywhere. Everything it does happens inside your own browser, on your own device.

1. Who publishes TaksCheck

TaksCheck is published by Proxem, registered in Belgium under enterprise number 0834.415.675, VAT BE 0834.415.675, with registered address at Luxemburgstraat 20, 9140 Temse, Belgium. Where this policy says "we" or "us", it means Proxem. You can reach us at hello@proxem.be.

2. What TaksCheck does with data

When you open a car advert on AutoScout24 or mobile.de, TaksCheck reads the technical details of the vehicle that are already shown on that page: CO2 emissions, fuel type, engine capacity, power, emission standard and date of first registration. It uses those figures to calculate an estimate of the Belgian registration tax (BIV) and the annual road tax, and it shows the result next to the advert.

That reading and that calculation happen entirely inside the tab you already have open. The vehicle details stay in the memory of that tab while the page is open, are used only to produce the figure on your screen, and are gone when you close or leave the page. They are never written to storage and never sent anywhere.

TaksCheck does not read, and has no interest in, the seller's name, the contact details on the advert, the photographs or anything else on the page beyond the vehicle's technical specification.

3. What TaksCheck stores on your device

TaksCheck saves exactly two settings, both of which you choose yourself:

• Region: the Belgian tax region you select (Flanders, Brussels or Wallonia).
• Language: whether you want the interface in Dutch or French.

They are saved using Chrome's built in extension settings storage. If you are signed in to Chrome and have Chrome Sync switched on, Chrome may copy these two settings to your other Chrome installations through your own Google account. That is a transfer between you and Google, under Google's own terms. We have no access to it and we receive nothing from it.

Both settings are deleted when you uninstall the extension.

We do not store or read your name, e-mail address, IP address, browsing history, the adverts you look at, the cars you are interested in, or anything you type.

4. What TaksCheck does not do

• It sends no data to Proxem or to anyone else. The extension makes no network requests at all. The only file it loads is the tax rate table bundled inside the extension itself.
• It contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage measurement of any kind.
• It has no accounts, no sign in, no identifiers and sets no cookies.
• It does no advertising, no profiling and no automated decision making about you.
• It sells and shares nothing, because there is nothing to sell or share.

5. Website access

TaksCheck asks Chrome for permission to run on the AutoScout24 country sites and on mobile.de. It needs this to read the vehicle details on an advert page and to place its estimate next to the listing. It runs only on those sites and does nothing on any other website you visit.

6. Links to official tax simulators

TaksCheck shows a link to the official simulator of the tax authority for your region. Following that link takes you to a website run by that authority, which has its own privacy policy that we have no control over. TaksCheck passes no information to those sites. It only shows you the address.

7. Your rights under the GDPR

We do not receive, hold or have access to any personal data through TaksCheck, so there is nothing here for us to give you access to, correct, delete, restrict or export. If you believe that is wrong, write to hello@proxem.be and we will look into it and answer you within one month.

The two settings described in section 3 sit on your own device, under your own control. You can change them in the extension at any time and remove them by uninstalling it.

8. Children

TaksCheck is not aimed at children, and it holds no data about anyone of any age.

9. Changes to this policy

If a future version of TaksCheck ever sends anything off your device, we will update this policy before that version is published and describe the change in the store listing and in the release notes. Nothing will start being collected quietly. The date at the top of this page is the date it was last changed.
